City of Marshall Sales Tax

The City of Marshall is asking the residents within city limits to vote YES for a 1 cent sales tax on November 14, 2023.

This sales tax will be strictly for our city police and volunteer fire departments. With the passage of this tax, necessary upgrades and equipment will be purchased for both departments. Some of the current needs include, but are not limited to: Jaws for Life, a ladder truck (this could potentially lower the ISO rating for the city which would, in turn, lower home owners insurance), police vests and another full time police officer-allowing for 24/7 coverage.

Current tax rates in surrounding cities range from 8.625 percent to 10.75 percent. The new rate would put the City of Marshall at 9.5 percent. When we shop at any of those cities, we are helping fund their police and fire departments. We ask that you say YES, so that we can help our own.

Mayor Kevin Elliott and Recorder/Treasurer Misty England, along with Sarah Rooney and Amy Switzer, have been busy passing out information and answering questions regarding this tax. If we haven't made it to you, and you have questions, please stop by City Hall or give us a call.
